From Runner-Swimmer-Lean Look
I was at the beach one day and decided to put on my speedo briefs for the first time. Attractive ladies were sunbathing in their two piece bikinis and topless. It was a hot day and decided to have a dip in the ocean. As I came out, some of the women were checking my lean- athletic body out. I liked it!

So, once and for all, if any guys have a lean-athletic look without a gut hanging out like the size of a balloon, wear speedo briefs or g-strings!

Who really cares about the need to wear board shorts etc. If I cracked a hard erection whilst an attractive woman in a bikini was checking me out, I would not care! At least she knows I am attracted to her!

From Mick
I agree with Bethany "a great hunk in speedos makes her day" [see Bethany's entry below] I am that hunk. I plat football , I am well hung, I have a great body. I like to wear my nylon/elastane tight bronze coloured micro fibre. There is a millionth of an inch layer between me and nudity. My elastane hugs the lunchbox and when wet is like spray on body paint. Ain't nothing hidden now.

I prance around on the beach and the eyes are all over me. Young and old staring at what I got and leaving nothing to the imagination. I lay down and my bulge is huge you can see it all and I get comments giggles and whistles its all part of the revolution of male strutting his stuff, showing off his wares. If the girls do it and we love it why not us. I have a big package and if we could send photos to this site lets just say it would make your day, thanks Bethany.

From Bethany
A hunk in a tight speedo makes my day at the beach worthwhile because there is nothing that catches my eye like a bulging penis covered in lycra with a great body! Really. I can't help but stare and admire the hunks I have seen in their skimpy speedo bikinis & thongs.

From Steve
The year was 1963 and I was 13 years old, sent to summer camp which was located on a lake. I was beginning to come of age sexually (gay) and I suddenly found myself surrounded by hundreds of really cute, sexy boys my age most of whom wore speedos which were the swim suits we all wore back then.

I found myself constantly looking at these really hot guys including my really cute roommate Fred who wore a bright red speedo. Since I was shy I hard hard time relating to anyone and of course I dared not reveal I was gay. So I did the next best thing.

I would "borrow" a kid's speedo and wear it around for while under my clothing. I often masturbated while wearing the kid's speedo letting my cum mix with his scent inside the swimsuit. This was as close as I could get to actually having sex.

I would always wash the speedo out and discreetly return it although there were some speedos I kept, ok stole, and I still have some of them these many years later.

Today when I am with a hot guy I sometimes ask if he will wear a speedo at least before we have sex. It has always been a hot fetish for me and always will.

I wonder what ever happened to my old roomie Fred? I still have one of his speedos, a light blue one. He looked so damn cute in that.

From Ted
If you have to ask, then don't wear it. Put your speedo on, stand sideways in front of a full length mirror. If you think the speedo emphasizes the size of your butt, then don't wear it because you'll end up self-conscience and uncomfortable.

I know what I'm talking about because I have a big butt also. It's out of proportion to the rest of my trim body, so I don't wear clothes that emphasize my butt - that's like advertise a flaw. I wear dark solid colored full cut swim suits, and I'm comfortable with how I look in those. It's all about choosing wisely.

From Anonymous
I just got a speedo and after reading some of the past messages I don't know if I should wear it. I have an "ok" body but I am concerned about my butt and thighs. I bike in the summer about 20 miles a day but just cant seem to get rid of the fat in those areas. My friends agree that I have a HUGE butt for a guy... so should I wear one?

From Daryl
Well, seeing as how this thread is still going and I have contributed previously, thought I would throw in my last .02 worth. My girlfriend and I just returned from a trip to Brazil, where we spent time on the beaches of Rio and Fortaleza. Talk about heaven!

Now, my sweetie, who is originally from Hungary and has no hang-ups about the body, loved wearing her thong suits (and she has kept in great shape, so she did not lack for attention), and I spent the entire time there on the beaches in my briefest suits. 1" at the sides, showing my legs, glutes and whole physique to it's best advantage. At 5'8" and now tipping the scales at a fairly muscular 200 pounds, I lost track of the appreciative glances and smiles whenever I strolled down the beach or emerged from the water. No one with funny or disapproving looks, just the way it should be.

Hey, I have even come to appreciate boardshorts for what they are, but my suit of choice will always be a bikini. Whatever floats your boat people is what it really is all about.

From Anonymous
I wouldn't wear them to the beach But for swimming (fitness not casual) they're fine. I recently went to Australia and loved it because no matter what you wore nobody gave you funny looks.

Keep surf-wear for surfing.

From Swimmer-Runner etc
This debate is dragging on! I swim in speedo briefs all the time, and wear the speedo g-string swim brief occasionally! I shave my body hairs (legs and pubic hairs) everyday so I can look awesome in them! I have the lean-athletic look to wear them, and I am proud of wearing them.

I was swimming laps on a particular day and an attractive married lady helped me out with my swim technique. After my swim, she told me I had a great body, but I am just an average swimmer!

So, women who are fit and look awesome in a two piece and one piece swimsuit, love guys who show off their bodies in speedo briefs provided they train their butts off (run, swim and weight train regularly).

If guys love to see women in their two piece swimsuits, bath topless and g-string briefs, us guys should use some initiative and show off our lean athletic fit bodies in speedos!

If our penis cracks an erection towards a lady, she should take it as a compliment. At least we are attracted to the lady in question! Some women find it cute! The guys is expressing his excitement and feelings!

From Dale
I'm not sure I agree with the "droopy drawers" comments and likewise ones about swimming in boardshorts. Swimming trunks or plain shorts, yes, not nice to swim in. Boardies - awesome. A decent pair of properly fitting boardshorts (as in they are tied right, or buttoned up, and are not so big that they hang around your knees) are not that awkward to train in. Yeah, they create a bit of drag, but it's not excessive, and I find that helps with swimming training, you go much faster when you strip down to a Speedo.

Someone also mentioned that boardies don't dry in time for the next swim;  decent, proper boardies (as opposed to swimming trunks or normal cotton shorts - think surf-brands like Billabong, Quiksilver, O'Neill and others) dry in five or ten minutes in a breeze. That's part of their design. I own a staggering 15 pairs of boardshorts, and they are great for the beach. I don't mind seeing guys in Speedos at all - at the gym pool and at the University pool, I am one - but for general beach/boardwalk wear, I think boardshorts are the best option. Beaches here in .za are 95% boardshorts, maybe even more. Boardies are stylish, comfortable, very light - I am a big boardies fan.

For the record, I am 29 and a dude. I own two black square-cut Speedos for the gym and the aforementioned many pairs of boardshorts for both the beach and general summer day-to-day use.

Cheers from sunny Cape Town.

"Speedo" swim wear for men is hideous! I don't care who is wearing them, perfect proportions, or not - one of the biggest sexual turnoffs I can think of. Don't wear them. Who wants to think about shriveled genitals?!

From Mary
Speedos are gross I don't need to see your privates. I don't like looking at your genitalia. keep it covered up, wear shorts.

From Volponia
IMO, how Speedos look depends on who's wearing 'em. From a strictly aesthetic POV -- and I say this as a fat broad -- grossly overweight men don't look too glamorous in them. But the only opinion that really matters is that of the guy who's wearing it...or them. OK, maybe his S.O. feels entitled to a vote. But the rest of the world, me included? Look somewhere else if ya don't like the sight.

From Lizzie
Worst sight ever on a beach? Overweight, middle-aged man in speedos with a g-string back. Seriously yukky, especially as he liked sunbathing on his front and parading around the pool in them. Thankfully g-string ones are rare and only seem to be worn by flashy Euro types.

Normal speedos look sexy on a good body, and my husband has a pair of swimmers that cling like speedos but are boxer short shape. They look pretty good and are better for swimming than normal boxers. But I'm afraid it all comes down to how good the person's body is. Flabby women shouldn't wear bikinis, and flabby men shouldn't wear speedos. I'm all in favour of a less body-obsessed society, but letting it all hang out can be taken too far.

From Belinda T
If a man had a body worthy of Speedos - go for it, but if not please don't torture us!

From Caitlin
I am sorry to say it, but a man in a Speedo looks like:
a) A creepy scary type with dubious morals who may try to corrupt innocent young American girls.
b) He has a humongous, enormous, awe-inspiring ego.
c) He's gay.
d) He is wearing lady's underpants.

I like men's butts, I like their legs, I certainly love their equipment, but Speedos don't accentuate in an alluring way to me. Nude on the other hand - that is a different story. I am not a Body Nazi and I date (and find attractive) people of all shapes, sizes and colors. I think bodies are beautiful, but I think Speedos look ridiculous.

From Jeff
C'mon girls - get a grip. Those of us who are not overweight or too hairy, but like to swim - and do it for cardio exercise as well as recreation, know that those baggy "swimsuits" are not helpful. I do not care, girls, what you think of speedos, but they help me in the water - to slice thru it - and I feel much sexier in them. So, get over it - if girls who are only relatively shapely (and not) can wear their form-fitting swimsuits, give us guys who like speedos a break!

From Tim
You say you don't want to see men's genitals and they should "keep it covered" [see Mary's post below]. I assume that you also believe that women should wear baggy clothes to hide their breasts? If not, why not? What's the difference?

From Mike
I'm a guy in my late 30's.  I used to think guys noticed girls, and girls noticed guys.  Then, when I was around 18, I began paying attention to female comments about speedos in print, as something I overheard, or from a female I asked.  There seemed to be this knee jerk revulsion on the part of females.  So, I began walking the beach in them to see reactions out of the corner of my eye.  Mind you (and I'm not bragging), I'm 6 feet tall, 175 or so pounds, athletic, not hairy, and decent looking.  Never ever did I, or have I, acted like a stud who was full of himself, never did I approach a female or go "hey baby", and never did I act like some sleazeball.

At least half of all reactions I could see or overhear were the ol' "eww gross", "I hate those things", "why do guys wear those", "get some shorts", or just looks of laughter or disgust in general.  Granted, out of a sea of people at a given beach, over the course of countless walks I've been on, these are probably a relatively small amount of reactions.  Most times you can't really "see" reactions, and I have gotten positive ones.  But, I guess the negative ones stick out.

I find it astonishing that 95% of females, or more, have far from perfect bodies...yet wear bikinis or one piece swimsuits.  Nothing, I repeat NOTHING is left to the imagination except skin color.  Yet, these same females criticize or make fun of even athletic guys in speedos.

I came across, in a waiting room, an article about the movie Swimfan.  In it, the female writer wrote how she did her visit to the set on a day when the guys weren't wearing "speedos".  Right after mentioning that dreaded word, she wrote "don't get grossed out, girls, it's for their roles".  In other words, it's just a given that if ANY HINT of the male organ bulges out of tight clothing, it's a cause for utter disgust.

I have developed a real problem from this over the years.  Women seem almost gleeful in their rush to talk of even athletic guys in speedos as a turn off, using slang to describe the bulge itself, or how they really are indifferent to seeing a guy in something so revealing.  Well, congratulations women...we get it.  You are beautiful and sexy no matter what the imperfect or aged condition of your bodies, and we have this unsightly mess between our legs that should be more than covered at all times.  "Oh, but Mike, it's not guy's bodies we're disgusted by, it's the speedo itself".  Right.  Can you imagine a guy saying "Oh we LOVE the female body, but those bikinis and one pieces are just such a turn off".

Until ALL women speedo haters start wearing shorts and t shirts over their one pieces or bikinis, they should shut their big mouths.

From Anonymous
We should go to the beach and see how many women there are wearing bikini style swimwear who should not be. I would say that there are more women offenders than male.

From Anonymous
I am a 36 year old American man who agrees with many in this forum that Speedos are a good thing. We unfortunately live in this country where people say if you wear them, "you are gay, it is disgusting, etc." It is a double standard indeed, a lady can wear a skimpy suit and is the toast of the town. A man does the same thing here in the U.S, he is gay or he is a pervert. I say whatever!

I went on vacation last year to Florida and returned to my hotel room wearing only my suit and mind you, there is a pool on the way to the room. I was called some unkind names by some teenage punks. I am in average shape, I don't understand the dislike for these suits. I also noticed that when I was seen by some girls, they went the other way. Why should I wear these ridiculous board shorts to the beach, if I want to wear pants to the beach, I might as well buy jeans from Target.

Ironically, on the same beach, a woman in a bikini was talking to a man in his 60's or so in a Speedo. I noticed they talked a while and as the day was ending, they walked together to the nearby condominiums, so the man probably got some, lucky son of a gun!

Speedos are a general term. They come in so many styles. You can wear the 1" solar suit or buy quality suits from Undergear or International male catalogs. They are comfortable and you get a great tan, especially if you wear black or other darker colors. They are relaxing and liberating. I agree with the men in Europe, Australia, Japan and Latin America that Speedos should be in. Like other members on this forum, I will wear them again and again, whether it is in Florida, or the Caribbean or Latin America. It is my body after all.

Thanks for the input.

From Rap
I remember the first time I wore a speedo. It was at Venice Beach, Cal. I wanted to see if I could do it. So I bought one and went alone to the beach one day. When I got up my courage, off went the shorts. What a surprise, no riot broke out! Since then I have come to find them more comfortable in the water, more so that a pair of cotton shorts which feel like a wet mop around the waist.

From TD
If you don't have the body for Speedos, please don't wear them.

If you have strong legs and a strong butt, do wear Speedos instead of those baggy shorts. Women will appreciate a man who will wear it (as long as you have the body for it).

Many women wear sexy swimsuits (and sexy workout attire in the gym). It' been my experience that women enjoy seeing a man (with a sexy body) reciprocate by wearing sexy swimwear (and workout attire in the gym). I've receive a lot of nice looks and gazes, expressions on their face light up, etc.

Just recently, I heard a woman say to the man she was with "I wish you would dress like this" as I walked on by and another woman gazing amorously at my body which was a real compliment.

From Smurfy
I can't believe how many people are saying 'I would wear speedos but I'm worried about the comments I get/will women be offended' etc. That is their problem, not yours! Wear what the hell you like!

I live in Britain and sadly in recent years it has gone the way of America and people are funny about speedos. Then last summer David Beckham wore them and suddenly everyone was bringing them out of their wardrobe! You should always wear what suits you, not what fashion dictates. I have good legs, which baggy shorts would cover and waste. Apart from anything else, baggies are ridiculously uncomfortable!

From TD
Speedos aka for form fitting brief style men's swimwear (even though the Speedo brand carries a variety of other styles for both sexes, but everyone knows that).

Personally, when I wear a swimsuit, I want to show off my body as sexy as possible and reveal a lot of skin. So wearing Speedos is too much coverage for me and wearing Rio cut swimwear which cover only half of the butt is a much more desirable choice for me. I would enjoy wearing a thong, butt thongs are illegal wear I live and wearing Rio cut swimwear is still crossing the line and definitely not the norm.

I'm proud of my body, so I enjoy wearing sexy swimwear to show it off my body and for the opposite sex to enjoy looking at it.

From Fishbone
Speedos? With those two inch sides, are you joking? Anything more than a 1/2" inch is too restrictive.

I'll wear whatever's the legal minimum full front and back if I have to, but preferably a thong or a g-string swimsuit. I usually prefer custom made to ensure a comfortable fit that doesn't slip.

Why other straight men should be afraid of their bodies, I can't fathom. I read an article a while back that called the droopy pants and baggy shorts look the "male burqa". It's so true, western males (especially Americans) are afraid of being sexual. It's okay to ask women to parade around half naked, but they can't do it themselves?

From Anonymous
I'm a 23 year old male and like to wear speedos when I go swimming. My new girlfriend, however, has commented on how terrible they are and that guys should never wear them. It makes me mad because nothing turns me on more than when a girl stares at my bulge covered in lycra. Also, I enjoy wearing thongs which I'm sure she will disapprove of. Suggestions anyone?

From Anonymous
Honestly I don't see why a man wearing a Speedo type swimming suit should be such a big deal. People should be allowed to wear what they want. I have seen my fair share of overweight women in small bikinis as well as older women in tight Lycra bathing suits, and it would never occur to me to make fun of them. There does seem to be a double standard here in the U.S. - women can wear whatever they want, but clothing for men, and swimsuits in particular, seem to be getting longer and baggier with each year. Are men really getting more hideous with each passing year?

I do find women to be more aesthetic looking than men - I am a straight guy after all, but given a choice I would wear speedos. They are more practical, they feel sexy, and it would be a real turn on to go out with a woman who liked Speedos. It is not about showing off at all or showing ones bulges - a well fitted speedo should accentuate a man's figure just like a woman's swimsuit should show off hers.

That being said, I still wear the long boxer shorts like everyone else because it seems that for a guy to wear anything to the beach that doesn't cover him up as much as possible is considered scandalous.

I note a hint of anger and jealousy in those women who say they dislike speedos on men; either these women are afraid of losing their advantage or they truly find men disgusting. I just think it would be more interesting for men in general if women would show a little more physical interest in men (along with an interest in their personality and demeanor), and a little less interest in how expensive are the cars they drive or the size of their bank account.

From John
My name is john and I am 34 year old man in very good shape. I wear my speedo to the beach here in the U.S.A and I also wear it to the health club. I have found women to be very positive to it. I have never had a bad comment or heard anything negative. As a matter in fact I seem to meet many more women at the health club and at the beach in my speedo than most guys do in there boxers. You just have to have the right bodies like the girls say.

From Houselizard
Speedos for pool... board shorts for beach!

From Nick
Hi everyone, I'm 19, fit, straight and Australian bloke and I love wearing speedos. I swim at the local pool once a week. The mums and women and I guess some men love to look at me standing there with a nice body and a nice bulge (even some older married guys). I want to show off my body while its still good to look at.

By the way im moderately hairy and that doesn't worry me, but I would only wear them to the beach I guess if I was going for an actual swim or tan not to stuff around. Come on speedos!

From Ghost Rider
Traci and Jill, [read entries below] I must agree with you in not wearing something that you don't look good in. I don't look good in speedos, thongs, or regular swimming trunks. That's why I go to optional resorts, so I don't have to wear anything. Of course there are probably a lot of people that think I don't look good that way either. Who knows? They just might be right.

From Anonymous
I am a 23 year old heterosexual Australian male who owns two pairs of Speedos. If you are heterosexual male who is fit, trim and enjoys being hairless from neck to toe and enjoys wearing a pair of Speedos, a swimcap, and a pair of goggles while swimming in your backyard swimming pool or down at the local community pool, take pride in wearing them because there are a lot of heterosexual women out there who enjoy seeing you guys showing off your fit, trim, hairless, and masculine physique.

From Speedo Sam 1950
I use the "nick" Speedo Sam 1950 as 1950 is my birth year & my 1st name is Sam. When I was young, we had a suit styled like the speedo briefs but made of a different fabric (my mother use to call it rubberized cotton). Not as comfortable as a speedo but I found out in my early teens it was still more comfortable than the swim shorts we wore then (they were very much like a squarecut). I found I intensely disliked the seam up the front of the suit. By the time of my late teens, the speedo had arrived ... I got my first pair when I was about 20. I found it amazingly more comfortable and have worn nothing since.

As far as erections are concerned, I remember going to one beach party where I "popped one" and the girl I was with was not grossed out, in fact she thought my "little fellow" was paying her a compliment. It's really sad to see the kind of lunacy out there today, putting down guys as gay just because they enjoy the best swimsuit ever made.

From Peter
I'm 65, wear the same size clothes I did when I was 17, and - ever since I went to Boy Scout camp and felt embarrassed in my boxers because all the cool guys had brief swimsuits - I've worn what we now call "speedos". Why anyone would want to wear Ayatollah pants for swimming is beyond me.

From Daryl
I see where this thread just keeps on going. I love to hear ladies like Jill and Traci [see entries below] tell it like it is. I am now in the best shape of my life (have even been encouraged to enter a natural physique competition) and the looks I get from women are worth every second I spend working out and watching what I eat.

If I hit the pool where I am a regular for a workout, it has gotten to the point where the female guards tell me how my showing up for a swim in anyone of my small suits that I own makes their day! I love it, they love flirting (knowing full well I am in a committed relationship, my girlfriend will join me on occasion at the pool), and I know that if more guys did keep themselves in the best possible shape, the ladies would be much more accepting of men in this style of swimwear.

From Jill
I hear ya, Traci, and agree [see entry below]. Men and women should wear what they look good in. We all have mirrors, pay attention when you look into it. Don't wear the fashion of the day, wear what is flattering to your figure. For chirssake, if you're out of shape don't wear a skimpy thing that showcases all the flaws. If  you're in shape, then wear something that does showcases a gorgeous body, be it male or female.

It's just plain common sense. You want to wear speedos (or a bikini), then get that body into shape. If you don't care about diet and exercise, that's fine. There's plenty of fashions to choose from that flatter various shapes and sizes.

From Traci
Unless you are total hunk really really built then do not wear speedos! It would be like a very heavy girl wearing a skimpy bikini!

From Anonymous
Ok, here's a gay guy's opinion on the subject. For the most part gay men have adopted the speedo here in America (it's true). I've lived all around the U.S. and have to say that if you wear a speedo you're either on a swim team, from another country, or gay. At the local swimming area where I live you might see one or two and they're older guys that are swimming laps. I've rarely seen a guy wearing them to tan or be casual.

There is one clothing optional beach here and I do see guys wearing speedos more often. There is also a gay section on the same beach and almost all the guys wear speedos. I wear them now and then, but usually only in the "gay" section. I'm not up for dealing with any taunting that I might receive if I wore them at the regular beaches. Sad but true.

I personally think they look great on the right guy and I don't understand why women wouldn't feel the same. Gay guys like to wear em because they're not afraid of their bodies. I think straight guys think speedos are too revealing, either it shows too much of your goods or you might not think you have much to show. Well, I've seen quite a few guys in speedos and for the most part the package or "bulge" pretty much looks the same. besides, you really can't tell how big a guy is when he's hard by the size of his flaccid package.

As for the excuse that you might get hard wearing a speedo, well I think it would be even more obvious in board shorts. besides, most Aussies wear speedos and I'm sure you don't see all of them running around with boners. I think that's a cop out not to wear em. anyway, I wish this trend would turn around and America would be more like the Euros or Aussies. Especially the younger generation. there are so many good looking young guys that need to be a little less self-conscious of their bodies and what people think of them wearing speedos. Besides, I certainly don't mind the view. I'm not a perv I just appreciate the male body.

From Julia
Well, Jaockspot, (see entry below), I have to jump in here and say that being 71 is not reason enough to not worry about how you look in Speedos, or any other type clothing. I'm 70, and I do worry about how I look, and with that in mind I wear what I look best in.

Yes, I'm slim and trim, and yes I diet and workout, and most important, yes I have a mirror at home so I have a good idea of what I look like. And that's how I decide on what type of clothes to wear. I don't wear a bikini because at my age, regardless of what shape I'm in, looks silly and unattractive.

I think men (and women) of all ages need to consider what they look best in, what type of bathing suit enhances their looks, and wear that. This whole speedo business is foolish. If you look good in a speedo, then go for it. If you look like unattractive in a speedo, then don't wear one. Piece of cake.

From Jackspot
I am a 71 year old man, with a large belly. I wear speedos to the gym for aquatic aerobics classes. The only time people see me is when I'm entering the pool area, because there is a kiddy class going on at the same time, and all the parents are sitting on the deck. When I leave the pool, they have gone and very few people are around. Does it bother me to have people see me in a speedo? Not at all. At my age, I don't worry about things like that.

From Tom
I enjoy wearing speedos or thongs to the beach and am perplexed by the negative comments from some of the women in this discussion group. I have a decent body, but don't see how that should be a prerequisite for wearing this kind of swimwear. The comments of those who are against speedos come from narrow-minded body-fascists. Do these people think it is unacceptable or "gross" for women who are overweight to wear one or two piece lycra bathing suits? Do they want the overweight banned from the beach or required to wear a shirt and long pants at all times?

I never see women wearing shorts down to there knees at the beach. It is a bizarre cultural double standard. Why are Americans so afraid of the male body? I would ask these people to chill out and stop being so prudish.

I spent 5 months in Brazil and there 80-90% of the men wear swim briefs - surfers, cool guys, teenagers, fit men, fat men, guys in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s etc. and no one acts like it is an odd thing (except for immature American tourists).

From Jaybird
If you are a guy reading this thread, you either wear Speedos or wish you did. On some level, you want to give it a try.

Don't be a coward! I wasted too many years wanting to "give them a try". I probably bought my first pair 10 years ago at 20 but was too embarrassed to wear them in public. So started swimming to "work out". I figured that was "okay". From the moment I tried them I knew speedos were all I wanted to wear. They felt fantastic. They made sense!

But it wasn't until I spent the better part of a decade training my body to its limit at the gym and eating perfectly that I finally developed the confidence to wear a speedo to the beach. Now it's like heaven. I'm doing what I want. I love how I feel and I don't care what anyone else thinks. But you know what else? I realize I could have had this feeling all along. I don't regret the work I've done but I realize it isn't a prerequisite for embracing yourself and being confident.

So stop wasting time. Be good to yourself. Enjoy your life and if wearing speedos inspires you to get in better shape, so much the better.

From Bikini Boy
I see that the brand Speedo has replaced the term bikini. There are many companies that make form fitting bikinis for the body conscious male. If you have not tried the lift panels from a few men's swimwear companies, try it and you will like it.

I can not believe well toned and in-shape men wear the clown pants and feel comfortable. Girlfriends take charge and buy one for your stud!

From Chris
As a competitive swimmer I always wear speedos at the pool, but I wear board shorts when at the beach with friends.

I'm really embarrassed when I wear my speedoes and run to my towel when I leave the water, because I have hairy legs.

From JSpeedo
I've been a Speedo wearer for 5 years now and I cannot imagine wearing anything else. My girlfriend doesn't mind when I wear my Speedo, and quite frankly I love the reaction that I get from strangers when they see me in my Speedo. I had a cookout the other day at my house and wore my regular swim shorts for the pool because my family was present. Once I got out of the pool, I stood there with the big uncomfortable, dripping mess of shorts thinking about why I wear Speedos. They make so much more sense; they dry quick, the allow greater movement in the water, they are comfortable, and allow for a great tan.

Yes they might reveal more than your average swimsuit, but women can wear practically nothing and get away with it. I'm just not going to try and conform with current trends in swimwear if it doesn't suit my taste. I know someday I'll look back and say, I'm glad that I wore what I wanted to wear! If people don't like what they see, they don't have to look.

From Mark
I've been swimming since high school, so its always been a "tank suit" for swimming laps. I don't wear them at the beach only because our culture is so fucked up and homophobic. At the pool, I notice both men and women noticing me, and I like it. I'm in good shape and I'm proud to be able to show off a bit. I'm glad that as a swimmer, I still "get" to wear speedos (like its anyone's business what I do or don't wear.)

From Rob
I'm 38 and have never worn a Speedo in my life but I just ordered one for a trip to Mexico in September. I am not buff by any means but not severely overweight. I would consider myself average. My problem with board shorts and longer shorts is that I'm short. They make me look worse in my opinion.

I ordered the dark colored training Speedos and am working out every day until I get to Mexico. I'm also tanning so I won't have a farmer tan. I hope I don't gross anyone out but I only plan on wearing them at the beach. I've got some regular swim trunks for the cruise.

From bleue
I am all for the snug fit of a black speedo. I'm a native American and when I tan, I tan to a dark copper bronze. I'm 39 and I've worn a black speedo since I was 16. The first ones were those off the rack styles you find at regular department stores. Then I got into the ones that were thinner on the sides, down to about 1 inch. Then I got into black thongs where the side and T at the back was down to half an inch.

I found that sometimes the thong was a bit too much for that regular beach outing so I took one apart, used the front and side for a pattern, designed a new back which was very skimpy and showed a lot of cheek but wasn't a thong and had a few dozen of them custom made. That is where I am to this day. I've been wearing my own design for the past 11 years and believe me a really good tan on a lean, muscular frame with no hair on the torso or legs, a skin tight black custom "speedo" covering a big package, and long black raven hair hanging to the small of my back... There is a certain kind of woman who is attracted to that look and I really enjoy their attention.

From Speedo Freak
I am 46 years old and have been wearing Speedo bikini's since I was 10 on a swim team. I don't understand how anyone can actually swim and then sun themselves in board shorts. The idea of a great tan is to get as much skin exposed to the sun as possible.

The feel of my cock and balls in a Speedo is wonderful. I am very well endowed at about 6" limp and grows to about 8 1/2 " when I get an erection. It happens some times when sunning, but I believe it's natural and if people stare and take a glance at my crotch all the power to them. I am proud of my body, how I have taken care of it and I love the feel of almost nothing on while swimming and sunning.

I have about 9 different suits (all speedos) and my favorite is a little 1"-side yellow TYR suit that reveals all that could be legally revealed. I get many stares and comments and most people flatter me with their comments and looks. I am not gay, never have been, and am happily married for 24 years.

It's interesting to chance upon this discussion. As a Singaporean, I'm here to provide some Asian perspectives. In Singapore, as is the case in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Speedos are definitely the norm. No one EVER wears board shorts to the pool, for the simple reason that it is absolutely impractical to swim with a bunch of cloth that does nothing but pull you down into the water. It looks messy in the water and it comes off if you try to exit the waters too fast... It's hard to dry them in time as well for the next swim.

In other words, board shorts make no sense at all. Of course it helps that Asians are naturally slimmer, but I'm sure we agree that regardless of your body configuration, you should be proud of it because you can blame no one else.

We are so proud of our speedos that the recent trend has been to squeeze into the tightest and smallest pair of speedos, giving rise to the new trend of guys collecting the "Japanese low cut trunks" that retail for 200 bucks a pair. These low cut trunks cover the bare minimal-- the crotch and some parts of the butt, and nothing else. They look great, sexy, and they make you swim much faster because the trunks are almost painted onto your bodies.

Do they look gay? If you ask me, no. If girls are encouraged to show off their bodies, why can't we men too? If girls show off too much, does it make them look like lesbians? It's funny how social constructs have made the feminism shit come back a full cycle to bite men back.

From Anonymous
Where I come from, speedos are not really popular. Occasionally there are some guys who wear speedos and many people look but I don't really care cause its what they want to wear.

From Jim
Honestly, I don't understand what the big fuss is about. If a man is in shape and looks good in a speedo, fine, wear it. If he's not, then don't. Same goes with any type of clothing; wear what you look good in, avoid stuff that is unflattering for your figure.

From Ghost Rider
I agree with you about the baggy swimming trunks. They look stupid. Also, I can't see wearing speedos. I could never stand someone sneaking up and giving me a wedgie. I can't see wearing something to intentionally give myself a wedgie either. Instead of the speedos, baggy swimming trunks, or reverting back to the "long johns", why don't we just ban swimming apparel for men and women both. Make all swimming and sunbathing a nude only situation regardless of whether it is at a swimming pool, a resort, lake, or at the beach. This would solve the problem.

This is one reason that I prefer the optional resorts and run around my house nude all time. I am more comfortable this way. Once a person realises that this is not about trying to bounce someone's bones, this idea will be accepted more and more. I would also go along with it becoming legal to be able to be out in your own yard nude. If the neighbor didn't approve, they could look out the opposite window.

From Anonymous
I've tried on speedos but am a little reluctant to wear them in public. While I have no overhang, I do have a rounded stomach that, to me at least, is unattractive. Additionally, I have several piercings which are very evident when I'm wearing speedos.

From Lee
Yes speedos are great I love to wear them any time. I have been wearing speedos all my life, now I am 47 years old and still wear them. All I can really say is women bikinis are no diff. and if you got the figure wear them. To me they look great and feel that all males should wear speedos and ban shorts from the beach, pools and all swim places that people swim.

From Mr. H
I just want to say that speedo wearing is the only way to go at the beach. When I was in the Dominican Republic a little while ago I wore speedos under my trunks, I find that sometimes at the pool speedos may be a bit revealing, be it that there was a restaurant there and a bar, but when I was at the beach I stripped down to my speedos and took in the sun.

Something to look for also to be kind to other people, if you are wearing speedos try to keep your crotch nicely shaven or trimmed (do a little manscaping), not only will this look better and save some people from seeing all your pubic hair but it will also make you look like you have a bigger package.

From Paul
I have traveled the world and some countries all a guy is allowed to wear on the beach is the bikini speedo. Believe it or not their are some guys who live on the beaches and own only speedos. All they have to wear 24/7/365 are bikini speedos, not even a shirt. All of these guys work out and maintain a nice shape and tan while working from home or the beach so they can wear their bikini speedo's. If they are happy owning nothing else then I have no problem with them

From Anonymous
I was interested to read the debate on the wearing of Speedos. Living on the south coast of the UK, I have been to France on short trips and I have been to some public pools where wearing shorts are banned. All males can only use the pool and slides wearing speedo brief style swimwear. I also noticed that the lifeguard wore speedos as well to set the example.

I wear Speedos in the pool and I consider it most sensible. If readers are embarrassed try wearing black or dark blue Speedos, they are not so revealing as bright colours. I won't wear shorts for swimming as they fill with air and cling when wet and feel very uncomfortable both in and out of water. In the UK I have noticed that teenage boys now prefer shorts but the majority of older gents wear speedos.

From Jeff
They feel good clinging to my cock, and arousing. They make me look stronger also. Straight men like speedos also.

From Anonymous
I think that speedos look fine. there's nothing wrong with 'em. I'm also a fan of y-fronts, which I wear. I don't see why people should make such a fuss about it. It's your own choice what you wear and it does not mean you are gay!

From OceansideMarine
I am a Marine at Camp Pen in Oceanside CA. I wear my speedo all the time when I run on the beach, or when I am at the pool on base. All the guys have board shorts. I wear my speedo and have very comfortable in it. I have never had any negative comments. In fact, I have found that at least ten other guys I know have started wearing speedos now. It is how you act when you wear them. I know I look good... I feel good. I love to be fit and show off a nice bulge in speedos. Keep them tight and small. Yeah baby.

From DEZ
I love the feel of my speedo and the skimpier the better. I do swim 3 times a week and speedos are way better in the water that board shorts. My girlfriend. likes me in a thong at the beach sometimes or a string bikini. I do work out and get a regular Brazilian wax.

From Anonymous
Heh, Is not this debate a great debate!  It is about time fit athletic sexy males and females who work out really hard (swimming, running and at the gym) wear their tight speedo briefs and two piece bikini/two piece sports bikini! If a guy and a woman feels sexy about their own body image, they should show it off provided they are lean, athletic and slim with toned bodies!

I swim a fair bit and shave all of my leg hairs; pubic hairs and armpit hairs everyday. I love the feeling of having minimal body hair. I also run in the arvos- topless. I feel really sexy when I get out of the pool in my speedo briefs; have a shower in the change-rooms (body scrub and shampoo) and look at myself in the mirror after a shower! When I get home, I usually strip down and give myself pleasure!!

I just feel there is nothing to be ashamed of if a man and woman who are really fit wear their sexy outfits whilst swimming in the pool and laying by the pool on a warm summers day! The most exciting and crazy thing to do would be to indulge in some skinny dipping! Who cares! We were born naked, and the best thing to do is to be free at last and indulge in a chance to make love in the pool, shower etc.

I think it is about time for women to eliminate their hangups about guys wearing board shorts! I would not wear board shorts. If I had to wear board shorts beside the pool, I would prefer to be naked!

From Dimitri
Everyone, I am of the speedo and male bikini mindset. Anyone else can stick their heads in the sand at the beach! Speedos are sexy, feel good, and are the greatest for swimming. I have been a competitive, master's swimmer all my life, or most of it; there is no alternative to a tight fitting speedo for a man or a woman swimmer.

For anyone who is in fairly good shape from working out, and loves to swim in bikinis and speedos...keep out lycra/spandex speedo bikini club-group active and growing! The generation xer's have no idea what they are missing out on. 1inch and less is more! Drop your Puritanical hangups!

Great to see more contributions to this thread such as this recent one from Anonymous [see entry below]. I can identify with being frowned upon because I enjoyed wearing a bikini swimsuit. Yes, there is nothing like going to Europe where no one cares one way or the other.

I can also identify with his girl loving his small suit and wanting a "piece" of him. I have noticed that as well with the women I have dated. My current sweetie is Hungarian, and we love sunbathing by the pool at her condo complex in the summer. Both of us in skimpy suits, we could care less what anyone thinks. Often, it is likely pure envy as we both have above average bodies. In fact, we get so hot and bothered, we literally on more than one occasion have run into her suite where we proceeded to bang each other silly for a few hours!

From Anonymous
Where I grew up, wearing a speedo was not only frowned upon, it was dangerous! When I was 19, I managed to get a trip to Spain with three weeks on the beach. I bought a blue Adidas nylon bikini swimsuit and I was in heaven. It looked great and felt great. When I got back home in the US, I was too scared to wear it so I would wear it under my (typical) baggy swim shorts.

I met this great girl and one of our first dates was to go swimming. At the end of the day, we were back at her apartment and started to get it on. When I pulled off my shorts, she saw my blue Adidas bikini. She was so mad at me for keeping them covered up all day. She was crazy for guys in Speedos. She balled me like a wild girl. I will never forget it.

Guys who are confidant should wear what they want. Girls who really like sex with guys, like guys in Speedos.

From Anonymous
I'm a Chinese in Hong Kong. There's no problem of men wearing speedo here. On the contrary, unlike in US, women wearing bikinis is often oppressed by the husband (or by her own moral standard). For men, it's really up to you to wear your preferred style. For example, while the others wear broad shorts, I'm just in a 1-inch sided brief. So US guys can certainly come here in speedo.

From Anonymous
This debate is a great discussion! Well, the biggest benefit in swimming in speedos if you are athletically lean and fit is you have a chance to show off how fit and lean you really look! Lean and athletic men like myself want to show women how much work we have put in to achieve our athletic lean look.

I would not really care if a woman sees my dick becoming really hard in my speedos. A woman should be really excited because the guy is straight and he is definitely attracted to a woman in a two piece bikini!

The biggest thing I have found is speedos make me really horny and sexually excited. I shave my pubic hairs anyway to enhance my inner spirituality!

After a swim, I would lounge around in my speedo briefs at home on a hot day. I would also wear casual type board shorts around the home without any underwear! On a warm day, I would wear my shorts without any underwear. The biggest turn off or hate is wearing underwear under my shorts on a hot day!

But, I would not swim in boardshorts or sunbake in board shorts. I would only wear speedo briefs (provided I am still lean) or swim naked or sunbake naked!

From Vincent
I find it extraordinary that this is even a subject for debate! The whole history of swimwear is smaller, closer-fitting, sleeker etc etc. History apart, speedos make obvious sense - not only do they give you freer movement (surely a key objective a swimwear?), but they're more hygenic (no nasty residues in hidden creases!).

At school you have to wear speedos, because they make sense. So why the problem when you get to adulthood? OK, lots of guys are out of shape and look awful - but they would look awful whatever they wore, and as others have said there are just as many out of shape women as men - probably more if we are brutally honest.

I'm convinced it all comes down to sex and prudishness. Women are not so turned on by the visual as men are, but clinical studies have shown that women DO react to the sight of shapely men - especially powerful legs and buttocks (rather than cocks!), which are precisely what they are seeing with speedos. And if further proof were needed, why is the sight of two heavily-built guys in speedos throwing each other round the ring - it's called Wrestling - have such an appeal to women (well over half the audience as studies have shown)?

So come on girls, drag yourselves into the 20th (yes, TWENTIETH) century and admit that speedos and thongs are the way forward!

From Daryl
Interesting to hear what Ted, from South America, had to say. [see entry below] When in Puerto Vallarta a few years back, I wore my smallest bikini on the beach, and being a quasi-bodybuilder (well, certainly my physique is far better than most men), people who I suspected were locals seemed to have no problem with it.

Now, my girlfriend (who is originally from Hungary) and I are headed to Brazil in late February. We can hardly wait. She loves to wear thongs and she also looks forward to seeing lots of men in small suits. Of course she will only have eyes for me...), but I understand where she is coming from. She is so bored with not seeing the male bulge on North American beaches. As we are both avid swimmers, she also tires of seeing men at the local pool where we workout in their board shorts. She herself, being very fit, wears the nice tank suits, cut high up on the leg (always one size too small, so as to be extra form- fitting and covering just half her butt!) and thinks fair is fair. As a woman, she wants to look. There should be more with her attitude!

From Michele
Well, it's like this...if you got the bod then no problem...think Tyson Bekford or some other cutie...however, if your body is not by Jak but by Pabst's Blue Ribbon...then please put on the baggy trunks, AND a loose fitting shirt. If you got a set of hooters put on a bro, not a bra. This is one critical bitchy opinion. Other women may be a tad bit more kind-hearted.

From Ted
I'm an Australian citizen from South American background, and honestly can't understand what's the big issue about men wearing Speedos.

Even though Speedos are not the favourite bathers on the beaches of Western South American coasts, I used to wear them and got many thumbs up as I'm a bodybuilder and not look very much South-American but more European. I reckon South American people are more willing to accept Speedos on foreigners than on native people.

After arriving in Australia, I realised that Speedos are the traditional national swimming costume, and this made me very happy.

If you are confident enough to wear Speedos, you should complement it by walking straight, shoulders back, tummy in, and looking at everyone with an air of pride on how you look.

We men who enjoy wearing Speedos, shouldn't be that concerned about what women think about us. It's just a swimwear style, don't understand what is the big fuss. And in the end, who knows, maybe the same women who criticise men in Speedos, are those fat cows who go to McDonalds with their children, wearing low rise pants, showing big fat bellies hanging out like kangaroos pouches. These ones are real offenders, they are not on the beach, and they are displaying all their ugliness on the streets. They should be put in jail.

From Charles
If you are a slim guy, forget about boxers or baggies - they'll just make your chest and shoulders and legs look smaller than they really are.

Okay, ladies, you have a point - hairy guys with overhanging bellies, and fat guys really shouldn't wear speedos. But for those of us who have a lean build, and nothing sags, really there is no better choice.

If some teenage girl thinks that I'm gay, who cares? My wife knows that I'm not, and my wife thinks I look great in speedos.

From Dave
The tan is better, I feel totally free in them and I just love it when women look at my dick. I get hard while in conversation with women , my only problem is when I pre cum , that is when a swim will come in handy.

From Subtle Talk
I have always been an avid swimmer growing up and yes our suits have changed a lot but I still remember feeling naked the first time I had on a tight racing suit in front of my parents. And the way the other parents would come around and stair at my bulge.

I am bigger than most so I have always had this as a challenge for me. They are too tight for me to wear for too long and if I have to I will wrap myself in a towel and release my dick and balls out of the side of the suit.

I wear what is appropriate at the time. If I am swimming I am either nude or have on a racing suit of some kind. If I am at a family pool gathering then I do wear broad shorts. I am not out to make others uncomfortable but I am not into hiding either. If I'm training then I have to wear a race suit. The best for me is nude swimming but I can not train in the nude, my dick acts like a rudder and pulls me down.

From Ted (5' 6" 125#)
Nobody can possibly enjoy wearing droopy drawers in the water. Anyone who doesn't like how I look, can look away.

The Ayatollahs haven't yet taken over America, and I couldn't care less about the opinions of prudes who think men should be ashamed of their bodies.

Personally, I don't care for lycra/spandex, so I wear nylon water polo trunks from truWest. They're as close to the 100% nylon Speedos of the '70s as one can find today.

From Anonymous
Well, I swim in speedo briefs; work out in lycra speedo triathlete shorts and a speedo tri singlet and when I go for a run, I take off my tri singlet to get a sun tan on a mild to warm day! I basically exercise 7 days a week (Swim, run, abs and do weights). So, I just cannot believe some females who prefer guys in board shorts!

If a woman loves to wear a bikini to gain a guy's attention, would not it be fair for a fit-athletic-lean- toned-muscular male to wear speedos to show off his appearance and excite a lady with the suspense of trying to find out if the man's penis area is shaved and large!

If a man works out everyday and has a slim to decent body, he should have every right to wear speedos at the beach, pool, lounge around at home on a hot day etc. Overweight to obese men should wear boardies because speedos don't look good on obese to overweight males.

Finally, the biggest advantage of wearing speedo briefs whilst swimming and at the beach is you can work on your sun tan! Heh, if women sun bake topless, fit to lean guys should have every right to wear speedo briefs with the possibility of bathing and sun baking naked!

I finally have something else to say! Sleeping in the nude; skinny dipping; guys wearing speedo briefs when they know they are fit and athletically lean; women wearing bikinis and g-strings; women sunbaking topless (with a g-string) or naked and guys sunbaking in a g-string or in the nude with their partner represents total spiritual freedom!

From Jessica
As a woman, let me add my thoughts to this discussion. I am in my early 30's and will admit that in general I do not care to see men in "marble bags". I can qualify that, though. I do remember a Club Med vacation where some very fit guys looked awfully good strolling down the beach in their small suits. As well, I do swim three mornings a week at the local pool and have seen my fair share of men in Speedo-style suits. In fact, there is a group of a dozen or so of us who are regular swimmers, amongst them, several men of varying ages.

Granted, they are in better shape than the average guy and admittedly, in that setting, I don't mind seeing men in them. In our group of regulars, I have seen the guys in suits that are a modestly cut brief, say 3" at the side, all the way to one fellow who wears a very small 1" or so bikini. I don't even blink when I am talking to one of them in the hot tub after a swim or on the pool deck. This despite the fact they are wearing next to nothing. So, I suppose the man himself and the setting determines what I think of these suits. I truly believe that the truth is, that a lot of women think the way I do.

Up until this year, if you mentioned man and speedo in the same sentence, I had an image of a fat man covered in hair with a little tiny speedo - gross!

But this year we started cycling and then looking at local triathlons. My SO is hooked and in training for an Ironman. Not only does he look hot in his new speedos, but I have a total new appreciation for them after seeing the guys at the tris in them.

If you've got the bod for it, flaunt it! Guys and gals both.

From Phil
Hey Speeder, just wear them [see Speeder's entry below]. Your penis and balls are a natural thing and don't worry about how they appear in your speedo.

From Speeder
You're right speedos are comfortable and I have bought myself some, but I am afraid to wear them and well they're colleting dust in my room. I want to know how you got over being afraid to wear speedos so maybe that would help me wear mine.

From Phil
It's a shame that some American women don't like men in speedos, but some obviously do. Maybe some are afraid that a well built man showing his bulge is too erotic?

I sure do like looking at women in their skimpy bikinis! I also masturbate wearing a speedo because it feels so good on my body, and because I want to keep my virginity and express my sexuality even though I'm 28 year old. Speedos show off my sexuality in a acceptable way and aid my fantasies in bed.

From Rich
I am a slim 58 and find it impossible to swim or be seen in baggy shorts. It is so much more comfortable and natural to wear a minimal speedo. The more minimal the better - just a string side and back makes it easy to change on the beach. I enjoy seeing others in similar suits. It shows off their anatomy and is more natural

From Jenny Lynn
I'm a 27 year old woman and I like to look at well built guys in speedos. It is breath taking to see a guy's dick constrained in that tight lycra knowing that he is probably thinking about wanting to have sex with me especially after I spread my legs wearing a thong so he can see my camel toe.

From Steve
They show off a male's masculinity just like a bikini shows off a females femininity. Males and females come in all shapes and sizes and it feels good to wear very little in the ocean and sand. Women's breasts and men's penises vary and there is no need to feel ashamed about this.

From Jim
I just started wearing my speedo out on the beach a few years ago. It took me a while to get comfortable, but I just love wearing them so much that it doesn't bother me anymore. If people don't like it, don't look.

I'm 33, in shape and my girlfriend loves them. You get a great tan and you feel so much better moving around in the water. I don't care what the teenie boppers think or anyone else, you only live once so enjoy the time you have!

From Steve
I've read a lot about swimming laps in speedos but have not heard from anyone who bodysurfs in speedos. There is nothing like the freedom and extra gliding speed of wearing speedos while catching barreling tube rides in the shore break. The tanning opportunity is also a plus. I'm not gay but I can't help but feel some embarrassment in wearing the suit in public. Sometimes I wish people would mind their own business and not be so judgmental about those that choose to bodysurf minimalist.

From Lawrence
I'm in Hawaii and I use speedos. I think I do it just for the tan line. I was out on a boat far away from Oahu. As we pulled away from the island it got hot now it time for sun block shirts to come off , I striped down to my speedos my buddy said, next boat trip I'll be in one too. speedos is just my thing .

From Andrew
I love the smaller the better, I can't stand swimming in big baggy shorts. I'm slim and tanned which helps the look but if you feel right about something and you're not hurting anyone...do it

From Steve
I agree with the majority of guys on here. You really need to wear speedos if you want to swim laps. The shorts do not cut it at all! Too much drag and being uncomfortable! I use to be on a high school swim team and of course we wore speedos and they were great then. But now I swim laps every day to workout....a mile a day. And so do a lot of other professional guys in their 30's 40's and 50's. I do have a decent body and look good in speedos or tyr type briefs and no one seems to mind at the pool.

I have traveled for business and people in other countries do not seem to mind at all when I wear speedos. For example, in brazil most guys do. So what if you see the male anatomy through the lycra. You see everything anyway...so what. Actually, I do not mind if my cock shows through. What am I going to do..... try to hide it? It is just being a guy anyway. It's not like a guy or female has never seen a guy before anyway. They just don't have to look if they do not want to.

So if you want to be over weight and not work out then wear shorts. But don't criticize us guys that want to do healthy things like swimming laps and wear speedos. I know people might feel funny about wearing them but if Hollywood actors wore them then more guys would probably do and more females would like them as well. For example the movie Swim Fan. But anyway, try them and I bet you will like them a lot. Enjoy. From a committed speedo wearer.

From Ka no'e Chad-c
Thing that Hawaiian people do. As we drive in to Waikiki and stop at a red light we look for the fat man in speedos. There is not a day that you will not find one. We say why not, they spend all that money to get here. So Just Hang Lose And Just Have Fun. We must not forget the teen age dude that is super white in the same color speedos as the fat men less than a 100lbs standing at the crosswalk with that looks of a WWF want to be. Now it's funny. And the military guy in speedos with the six pac abs (GAY).

From Jason Timmons
I work on seadoo water crafts , some times we do work in the water I keep pair of  speedos in my truck if I have to get wet. BUT! I workout and wax. Speedos are sometimes not right for were your at I use fight shorts. Baggies shorts had failed me and I'm not a underwear guy when I'm at the beach the military made me this way.

From Speeds
Wow, my wife and I always laughed a guys in speedos, Now I am 51 and took up swimming 2 years ago. The lady who taught me said speedos were the best for swimming (streamline) I was really self conscience about buying a pair but I did and now I wear them to the beach, around the house, swimming. They are so comfortable to wear that I have a hard time even putting on a pair of square cuts around my friends.

I am not fat or in shape just kinda normal for a 51 year old. But I am not embarrassed of my bod, I fell totally free and sexy and sometimes it shows when I am on the beach! It drives my wife crazy as she still doesn't like them but she knows I love them! I will never go back to a baggy suit.

Sorry girls you lose here! I know why you wear a bikini now! Can you go back?

From Anonymous
I like speedos and I think every one should were them. But if you are the type of guy who get "excited" quickly don't wear them because one time my dick peeped out of those speedos.

From Allen
I have to agree with the majority who have sent replies here. I have worn Speedos or bikini swimwear for most of my life. I think it is a shame that people think that wearing a Speedo is not appropriate at a beach for men these days, especially those that really look after themselves.I am 44 years old, but I keep myself in decent shape for my age.

When I look at the flyers these days that show men in these long board shorts for swimwear it makes me wonder if men are too scared showing more of themselves. At times I really hate summer now because whenever I browse through these flyers and see men almost covered and women showing more of themselves when it comes to swimwear it makes me really think why is that?

From Haddock
I am a 42yo speedo loving Australian man. I think the reason many women don't like men in speedos is because they are slaves to fashion and currently speedos are out of fashion. However I believe if speedos were to suddenly come into fashion then the opinions of many women would turn around.

From Marty
It depends on your body type. If you're overweight, you probably won't look good in Speedos. Wear something baggy instead. I will wear Speedos. There's nothing wrong with tight fitting jeans, underwear, or gym shorts either. It's an individual choice. Everyone knows what we men have between our legs. So take a lesson from other cultures and accept it. Why is our American culture so freaked-out about sex?

From Anonymous
A sentence in a e-mail circulating letter, praising womanhood over men was incomprehensible and puzzled me: "No fashion faux pas we make, could ever rival the Speedo." I had to Google "Speedo" and I ended up on this web-site.

I thought that Speedo must refer to something other than swimming, but it did not! Only after reading the comments on these pages made me understand that sentence. As far as I know wearing this or that in a pool or on a beach does not make any difference. It seems to me that more than half of boys and men here (in Finland; for those Americans who don't have a faintest idea, it is in Europe) wear speedos and the rest wear shorts-like garments. It has NEVER occurred to me that wearing normal men's swimsuit (=speedos) would indicate any sexual or other inclinations of the wearer!

Americans' complexes are unbelievable!

From Anonymous
Wearing speedos/briefs is a choice. I usually wear them for lap swimming which is the norm in Australia. Swimming is a healthy sport and who cares what you wear in the pool/beach. As long as you are comfortable, go for it. We only live once so be free about it. Just be yourself.

From Jay
While I concur men should be free to wear whatever swimwear they prefer, it is also important the guys pay attention to grooming, too. If you're particularly hairy (back especially) pay attention to it. I am an older guy, straight, and cannot understand a lot of things men allow themselves to be caught in.

I like minimal swimwear (speedos) and better yet my birthday suit; but the truth be told, the American mind on this easily puts those preferring speedos in the minority but sexually classified as something we may or may not be. Frankly, guys, wear what feels comfortable.

From Speedo Stud
I'm not gay, but I can't get enough of men in speedos. There's nothing more erotic than a man in a speedo. I just imagine myself in their place. Public nudity has always been one of my fetishes and the speedo is one of the closest things to it. It just makes me mad that there is so much thought that if you wear a speedo that you are gay. That's not true. I'd love to hear of more straight guys in speedos.

From Bernard
It's very unfortunate that the wearing of swim briefs (I prefer to use "swim briefs" as opposed to "Speedos" because genericized trademarks tick me off!) is tied to homosexuality. The stereotypical image of swim briefs on homosexuals is fairly recent and was propagated by both the gay community searching for symbols of identity and by religious groups delegating morality on our clothing.

I've been reading this discussion and I think it's unnecessary for the heterosexual men to have to "declare" their sexuality. I understand that a heterosexual male's opinion on the subject might be more valuable than that of a gay/bisexual man. But think about it: by saying "I'm straight but I like to wear Speedos" you are perpetuating this kind of association. If you've got reason to declare your sexuality (such as "my girlfriend/boyfriend likes it when I wear them" "I get looks from the girls"), than by all means say it, but don't just declare for the sake of declaring. It only marginalizes us more.

I once had a negative experience with swim briefs at the apartment pool where I used to live. At first I was apprehensive about wearing them. I went one time to the pool just to sit down and watch the others. Some scantily clad young girls were tanning. Later I went back when there was not a lot of people. I would swim a while but mostly I laid down to tan. I did this about three times until one day while at the pool, the resident manager advised me that "some people had complained" and that if I wanted to use the pool I needed to wear my swim briefs only while in the pool, but not while out of the water tanning. I left and never came back, although what I should have done is ask why the girls were allowed to lay about in their bikinis, and what gave her the power to delegate my swim clothing preferences (there was no rule prohibiting men from wearing swim briefs).

Men: NEVER allow yourself to be unfairly ostracized by anybody else because of your swim attire. The consensus of this discussion is: if you've got the body for it, than wear them!

[Three cheers, Bernard! We admire your attitude, and wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts on the negative effects of declaring sexuality.]

I'm 21 years old and a virgin. I love wearing speedos because doing so means that you're probably about as close to being entirely naked in public without breaking the law. The tight spandex against my body is a real turn on.

From Matt
I am an American but I recently went to Europe on vacation. Every man wears a speedo/brief. Only other Americas wear the long shorts. Americans are so uptight. I joined in and wore a brief every time I went to the beach there. I found it much more comfortable, normal and better to swim in.

I'm not overweight at all but neither do I have the perfect body. It is just normal there. My wife also found it much sexier and enjoyed the men in their briefs. I wish Americans were so comfortable with their bodies as the Europeans, maybe we'll catch up to them someday.

From Paul
I am a gay guy (str8 acting and out to most) and totally into speedos (and skimpy undies, jocks, thongs etc) and always have been. I think I got into them watching the swimmers and divers at the Olympics when I was about 12 years old. As I am from Europe it is totally acceptable for anyone, of any age to wear them.

Speedos are associated with gay culture and while this may be true, it is also true that when I grew up everyone wore them, in fact I used to regularly borrow friends speedos and have er,...quite fond memories of that.

Speedos are erotic to me, but they are also just a regular item of clothing. People comment that only fit, or in shape people should wear them. I think that looking at a hunky guy is speedos is great but for people not that in shape, saying they can not is fascist. Wear what you want when you want—freedom!

I am not sure why American culture seems to frown on Speddos now, perhaps someone could comment. I think that for swimming, bathing or just hanging out there is nothing better.

From Sue
Oh for crissake, get a grip guys. Other then the uptight and the religious right who apparently fall apart at the sight of backsides and bulges, hardly anyone cares anymore if people wear a smart looking brief bathing suit, or a full cut bathing. Certainly we're not jealous or insecure when guys strut their stuff. The whole point is that if the person (meaning male or female) has a healthy well taken care of body, then they can wear whatever they want and look fine. If they don't have the body for skimpy wear, then they should wear what flatters their body style - a more cover-up type swimwear.

And that's the whole big deal. So ditch the jealousy and insecurity crap. It just doesn't cut it. [see entry below]

From Yomi
I feel speedos are much better. I am African and they are quite common here, like 1 of 5 guys do wear it. I feel it's comfortable. Girls here don't say anything about, it's a normal thing plus the girls stare at me. I get more attention than the guys wearing shorts. The chicks just stare at my bulge and it's a good feeling.

I guess its an American problem, the women feel insecure over there or jealous of the men. If you have it flaunt it.

From Tom
I'm 51 and have always had a swimmer's body. I love to wear a bikini or even a thong if I can get away with it. But my dilemma is my wife and I own a resort in northwest Wisconsin and even though we vacation at nude resorts in the Caribbean my wife has a fit when I wear my suits around the resort. She say's it will hurt our business because people will be shocked and offended. I say screw that, our customers are from Mpls and Chicago and moreover I look great (and least so I'm told) so what's the problem.

I work in our marina, I'm in and out of the water all the time, it's comfortable... and hey...sex sells. I need some support here or maybe somebody has to enlighten me. The last two years our business has increased since I started wearing what I'm comfortable in. ( It could be just a coincidence too I'm not that big headed). Instead of conforming to what's " appropriate" I'm just wearing my skimpy Speedo and doing my thing. It feels great and I get plenty of admiring stares. And nice tips from my charters.

From Runner-Swimmer-Triathlete
This is an enjoyable debate! I swam in size 14 red speedo briefs and I noticed an attractive tanned-athletic female swimming in a sexy black bikini...She actually checked me out and had a look at my athletic lean figure!

So, a man who has an athletic-lean build as a result from running and swimming, has every right to show off his body to the opposite sex even though he has no intention or expectation of picking her up!

I shave my legs; pubic hairs and armpit hairs everyday so I can look awesome in my speedo briefs or speedo g-string!

If a woman has an athletic lean body, she has every right to swim laps in a two piece bikini; sunbake topless or indulge in skinny dipping!

God gave us a body; we work on it to keep fit and healthy and we have every right to show off our hard work to the opposite sex!

OK, this may sound weird. When I walk by the pool I see the women laying out wearing next to nothing and I am actually jealous of them because they can do it while I am expected to wear those baggy knee length shorts. So, I recently bought some daring (by USA standards ie bikini, thong, g-string) swimwear for myself out of curiosity.

While I haven't worn then in public (except a Speedo for lap swimming) I have been told by a few women who I have let see pictures that I look good. I am a straight guy. However, I like the way that it feels to wear them. And I am not overweight and hairy although I could use a tan.

From John
I've noticed that on several trips to America people tend to get weirded out by Speedos or any brief type of men's swimwear, however, in Europe and the British Isles, the majority of men still wear Speedos both to the pool and beach, and no one even notices.

In a way its a form of sexism aimed at men, I feel, as those baggy shorts are totally useless in water.

From David
Ya gotta love the double standard in our society. Sure, I agree... a guy who weighs 300+ and could warm a small 3rd world nation with the amount of fur he has is not the most attractive thing to see on the beach... but neither is a 200 + pound woman in any sort of swim wear. What about the newest trend that overweight is "in"? Will women soon wear moo moo's to cover their fat rolls? I don't think so, in fact I know so, as have have been to the beach and seen... yuck.

Also, the double standard of women's sexuality to men's. It's ok for a woman to wear a bikini that 3/4 of her breasts hang out of and barely covers her genitalia, but god forbid a guys wears anything that might be even remotely showy or sexy.

Sure, attractive bodies are better to see on the beach or by the pool or in the gym in something revealing, but fat is fat, no matter the wearer's gender.

Personally, Speedos are considered conservative compared to what I wear, Brazilian style bikinis for guys. I have been thought gay, but the only opinions I care about is my girlfriend who is lying next to me on the beach. And all my girlfriends have encouraged it.
